In 2021, when Jordanna was born, the nurse practitioners at her doctor’s office kept diagnosing her with thrush. For about the first 4 weeks of her life, she was on antibiotics. They said that one of the big things with thrush was to sterilize her bottles so the bacteria would die and hopefully the thrush problem would resolve because of the antibiotics. Well, she didn’t have thrush. She did the first time we went, but thrush looked like chunky cheese on the tongue and that was not the case for at least the final 2 weeks of this ordeal. She finally saw a pediatrician and he diagnosed her with “milk tongue”. She couldn’t quite clean her tongue off due to a tongue tie so it left her tongue looking white. The point is though that I had to purchase a bottle sterilizer to clean her bottles. I purchased the Baby Brezza sterilizer and this is my honest review of the product.
I have linked a video I shot when I was unpacking the sterilizer and figuring out how to use it. It was quite easy to assemble and it has many options of how long you want to sterilize the bottles for. So, you can do a quick sterilize session if you’ve run out of bottles and need one quickly. There is a medium and long session as well. I usually used the long session since I was trying to fight thrush bacteria, otherwise I would have just stuck to the medium session. You can use the sterilizer to just sterilize the bottles, sterilize and dry, or dry only which is nice.
I was able to clean about 3 bottles at a time of the Dr. Brown’s bottles with all of their accessories. (I had to buy pink ones since we finally had a girl, and I have loved these bottles since I purchased them for Joseph.) You can also use the sterilizer for breast pump accessories, which I had to do for about 5 months until Jordanna learned to breastfeed.
One feature that was nice as well was that if the lid was knocked off by little hands, the session would stop. The one thing that I will say is that if you have hard water, then you will need to regularly clean off the hot plate where you add the water to or use distilled water. Ours got a tad grungy because I was lazy about cleaning it and our water has high amounts of calcium in it. I just used a little bit of vinegar and some water to clean the hot plate.
The other thing I loved about this was that when I first purchased the Dr. Brown’s bottles, I had used boiling water to sterilize them because this was before Jordanna was born and thrush was a thing we were battling, and because of the amount on calcium in our water, it had left a white residue on the bottles after they were dry. That residue was not on the bottles after they were sterilized and dried in the Baby Brezza which was awesome!
Would I recommend this product: YES
Overall, great product. I paid over $150 for it, but I found it on Amazon for less than what I paid for it! It did a great job cleaning and sterilizing the bottles. It is so easy to fill the water into the hot plate, fill the sterilizer, turn it on and walk away! The sterilizer has lasted the 5 months I used it with Jordanna and then I leant it to my brother and sister-in-law for their twins, and now is it stored away waiting for when I need to use it next.
