The plants died …… along with my passion for this garden. The week after we planted the tomatoes and peppers, we had a heat wave. Rookie mistake …… I did not check the weather! My mom had helped plant the first round of plants and also picked up new plants from a store so we could hopefully get some tomatoes and peppers this year. We planted them in the garden and so far they are alive and well. The root crops are doing well. The weeds are doing great too! The potatoes sprouted rather quickly since the sprouts on them were already so long when we planted them in the ground. The onion sets are doing well too and I need to get the garlic scapes off the garlic before they flower.
Joshua did not make the competitive this year so we added him into the skills development program that the soccer club offers. I have noticed a huge improvement in his comfort level with handling a ball and he has displayed this in the games he plays for house league. He was able to practice with the competitive team in the weeks preceding skills development. The boys also have their week of soccer camp later in the summer. During that camp, the boys are signed up for a 2-day intensive skills camp which will be good for the development of their skills. So far the volunteer position with the club is off to a good start. I have many great ideas, but need to find ways to implement them and bide my time to suggest them. I am having fun with it though!
The weekend before Joseph’s birthday part was Joshua’s long overdue birthday party. We titled it the “start of summer party” and a few of his friends were able to make it. They did adults versus kids for a few games and they all had pizza and juice. I think they enjoyed seeing each other and the kids that don’t go to the same school anymore were able to see each other as well.
Joseph turned 4 years old this month! It is unbelievable to think that he is already 4 years old. We moved into our current house when he was 2 months old and now he is not a toddler anymore! He is such a funny guy! So kind to his brothers and sister, but definitely will not take their crap when they dish it out. He is a very sensitive and intuitive soul and comes out with the funniest remarks! I never have my camera rolling when he says them, but will try my best to get some on video soon. My Aunt Jane and Uncle Willie were able to make it for Joseph’s birthday party which was amazing! This was the first time Uncle Willie has seen the house at all so it was fun to show him around.
The attic was spray foamed before the party so Josh was super proud to show that progress to everyone. I felt so bad for the workers of AJ Spray foam, because it was so hot in the attic the days they were here to spray goam. I bought popsicles the evening of Day 1 so they would at least have something to cool them off the next day, but the effects of the spray foam were so immediate that it had already helped to cool off the attic for Day 2! I would link his website or Facebook page, but he doesn’t have either and yet is booked solid. So, if that doesn’t say something for the business then I don’t know what will. Here is a link to the Yellow Pages page for his business though. I highly recommend them! The difference in temperature in the upstairs alone is amazing! The attic now has cool air going to it which trickles down to the second floor, keeping us nice and cool at night. The spray foam being complete means we are one step closer to having the attic finished as more bedroom space for the boys!
Something very near and dear to Josh’s heart is the volunteering he does with RBC to prep the Christie Lake Kids Camp for their summer camp season every year. This is such a great cause and if you can donate to help them continue this camp that has been running for over 100 years then please do so following this link. Our kids have a blast helping get the camp ready for the season and for the swimming at the end of the day.
Jonah is growing like a weed and is 4 months old already! The twins turned one this month as well, but we weren’t able to make it to the birthday parties. Hopefully we will be able to arrange a visit this summer while Josh is off work and before Paisley goes back to school in September, but I have to remember to get the text sent to arrange that!
Josh finished his textbook and passed his exam. Now, he has one section left to study for before his big final exam and then he is done! He has officially started paternity leave. His first day of now working was his birthday, so I think that is a great way to spend your birthday, at home with the family. He did not let me make him a birthday cake, so there were no special pictures, but we did spend the day celebrating him and letting him know how special he is to us.
That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more updates coming your way!
