May has come and gone so quickly. I turned 32 which I find so weird because I certainly don’t feel 32! I mean what is 32 supposed to feel like? We had the family birthday get together for Jonathan and Jordanna’s birthdays. It was a special day as well because my Aunt Jane and Super Grandma were both able to come. The celebrations are shifting to a new dynamic since the usual cousins and honourary cousins have been unable to make it to the parties. We did have a great time celebrating the kids and Super Grandma was able to meet Jonah!
We went to the park a few times and had lots of fun in the backyard, but I was still diligently plugging away with school curriculum and Josh was focused on finishing his textbook. Joshua’s soccer try-outs were still happening and he even played an exhibition match against an older competitive team. The house league soccer began just after the long weekend and thus began my new duty as Director of Divisions & Conveners with the soccer club! I am super excited to be helping out the soccer club and hope to help them with a great soccer season!
The weekend after the long weekend we planted the tomato plants and pepper plants in the garden. We put in bush beans, pole beans, drying beans, peas, onions, potatoes, and beets! I am hoping for a low maintenance/high reward garden this year. I had absolutely no plan to attack the weeds though. Josh’s Mom and Step-Dad gave us a huge basket of sprouting potatoes which was amazing! I dug about 7 trenches to plant them in so we could have lots of Russet potatoes. Unfortunately, the sweet potatoes did not sprout at all so we do not have any sweet potatoes this year. The garlic was planted last fall and is growing well amongst tons of weeds and random wheat plants. My onion seeds failed again this year so I purchased onion sets and planted them in about 7 rows in the garden.
This month was mainly getting the garden planted and spending time outside. No major activities besides running back and forth to soccer and the birthday parties early in the month. We did celebrate Mother’s Day with a delicious Black Forrest Cake!
That is about all I can think of for this update. More to come soon!
