For the first time in any pregnancy, I had to have a third trimester ultrasound to check on the baby. I don’t remember exactly what they called the scan, but essentially they were checking to see if baby was indeed measuring big, which the ultrasound technician said the baby is measuring a week ahead. I am not entirely sure what that means, but I’ve resisted the “Google rabbit hole” and wanted to wait until my OB appointment to see what she had to say about the results from the scan. I also remember the ultrasound technician saying that there was one portion of the scan that they don’t usually ask for until women are overdue, but that specific portion of the scan was requested from my OB.
I have to say, in the days leading up to the 34 week OB appointment, I was getting quite anxious about the scan results and what everything meant. I’m trusting that by Kingston Genetics not calling me back regarding the referral from the 20 week ultrasound, that it’s actually a good thing and a good sign. The ultrasound technician actually said that if they didn’t call then it was a good thing so, perhaps she is right. I did end up Googling what it meant to have a scan so late in a pregnancy and what it meant for a baby to “measure big”. Honestly, it didn’t really give me any information except that perhaps the dates for conception and things like that were wrong.
Then I finally had my OB appointment. My blood pressure was good despite being late, running through the hospital, and having to park at the hospital and pay! *insert eye roll and whining here :)* My OB said that the scan results were awesome! It was just the way that the baby was sitting that was causing the measurement to be off. During the ultrasound, they checked amniotic fluid levels and blood levels running through the umbilical cord and everything was great! Baby is still head down and I sure hope it stays that way!
So only a half a week of anxiously waiting for results, but everything is fine and good to go! Of course the genetics thing is still in the back of my mind and I keep hoping and praying that everything is fine and the baby is just healthy! Symptoms that continue to drive me nuts are these Braxton Hicks contractions! I have never had them in any other pregnancy that I can remember, but boy oh boy they are coming frequently with this one. They began just after I was 20 weeks along and flare up when I am dehydrated or I need to pee. They are more annoying than anything, but I will take the annoying pregnancy symptoms and tests over having a high-risk pregnancy or severe sickness or hospitalization any day!
