What Happened to Dunkaroos?

I had to go to the grocery store tonight to get more baby wipes. I waited until the last minute to get these too. It seems that when you’re home all the time, you go through phases. The first phase is feeling like you need to get back out of the house, but then you settle into this phase of never really wanting to leave the house. Especially when it is so convenient for someone else to run to the store instead of me LOL! Anyways, I decided to go grab these baby wipes. Josh grabbed the scented ones last time and now he’s fired from that job. (Just kidding! That would mean I would have to leave the house to go get things!) It was hilarious when he got the scented baby wipes though. I gave Joseph trouble for getting into the Fabreeze spray and he admitted he was into it, but then the next day when we used the wipes again, we realized it wasn’t him. Poor guy! Anyway, back to the reason I was leaving the house. I had to get more baby wipes. If either of my diapered children needed another diaper change, we were going to have to bath them. So, I leave the house! My other motive for actually going out was that I had a massive craving for a French Vanilla, but the machine was broken and the other Tim Hortons was closed before 9:00 pm! Guys! Since when does this town go to sleep so early?! So, now my sugar craving is mounting higher because I couldn’t get my French Vanilla and I didn’t want to leave Josh at home with the kids for too long so I needed to hurry up. So, I sadly went to the grocery store empty handed.

At the grocery store, I grab some milk, some oats (because I am OBSESSED with the overnight oatmeal right now and the Oatmeal cookies!), I grab the baby wipes, some hot chocolate, and some Kosher salt (I need to figure out how to use and clean my cast iron pan and I was told this salt helps???). Then, there on the shelf is something from my childhood that I really hadn’t seen in a while. My favourite Dunkaroos!!! They even had a single pack that I could grab and snack on during the drive home. So, I bought them! Now, I am left wondering……what the heck happened to Dunkaroos?!?! The cookies are all wrong. They’re like a flaky cookie and not really the solid cookie I remember. The cookie is literally falling to crumbs in my fingers, but that is not the saddest part. The icing looks like Vaseline with sprinkles in it!! What happened to that gloriously thick yet dunkable white frosting with sprinkles in it? This looks like some hydrogenated something or other. Like imitation frosting. It tastes even worse! I am left so heartbroken over this. Honestly, the only saving grace from tonight was that I did buy a small can of hot chocolate and was able to relish in the delightful warmth of this drink reheating my soul from this crushing blow of the Drunkaroos.

I mean, I have had this soul crushing discovery before. That shattered childhood illusion has happened with Trix, Fruity Pebbles, and Frosted Flakes. None of them taste the same as when I was a kid. I mean Fruity Pebbles and Trix completely changed the shapes of the ceral and Fruity Pebbles doesn’t even taste the same…. it should really be called Fruity Flakes! At least the Trix still taste good! But to do this to the Dunkaroos…….I just cannot get over this. My hopes were set too high tonight I guess. The packaging was bigger than they were yeras ago and I was so excited to enjoy this treat. I thought I was going to get more cookies and more frosting, but all I got was a package of lies. The tiny cookies took up half the room in the packaging and the yellow frosting was indescribable. Yes, of course, I ate the whole thing, but I still weep inside for the death of Dunkaroos.

I mean honestly, unless I am not remembering my absolute favourite snack as a kid correctly…..really the frosting is my main shock. Is it because I have made homemade frosting for years now and the Dunkaroos frosting hasn’t really changed….have I just become a frosting snob?

Let me know if there are any foods, drinks, etc., from your childhood that are just not the same anymore. I know there were more crushing blows to my childhood illusions of things, but the three that came to mind were all the cereals. They just don’t seem to make things like they used too. I hope you all enjoyed my satire, but half serious sarcastic thoughts about my adventure tonight. I am not sure I will be venturing out too many more times if this is what happens when I leave the house. My heart is too fragile at the moment to be able to take any more.

But seriously…..look at that “frosting”. I cannot even call it frosting…..It’s yellow!!
