Spring: A Time For Birthdays

I’m not sure if everyone’s household is like this when they have a few kids, but in our house, a lot of kids and adults seem to have birthdays all around the same time. Joshua and now Jonah are the two exceptions to the rule in this house. Even Bosco’s birthday falls into place in the Amell house! In both scenarios too! First, most of our birthdays fall between April 26 and June 26. That’s 6 members of the Amell family having a birthday within a two month span; two happening on the same day! Then, there’s the people who have their birthdays in or around the 26th of the month. That’s 5 members of the Amell family who fall into that category!

Spring Birthdays

The first birthday of the year is Bosco who follows both birthday themes for the family. His birthday is April 26. Then, there’s Jonathan and Jordanna who are both born on April 27 and we just celebrated their birthdays. We did absolutely nothing for Bosco this year (sorry Bosco). Although the kids did give him extra treats. A tradition we used to have in the house was to pick a restaurant or at least pick your favourite dinner on your birthday. This year, since we did have a resolution to stay away from restaurants, it was going to be a home cooked meal for everyone this year, but Josh and I caved. We took Jonathan and Jordanna out to Barley Mows for their birthday and it was awesome!

Then, on the Saturday, Jonathan had his birthday party with his old classmates at Stingers which was amazing! The kids were able to play 3 games of SplatMaster which is a “not as hard” version of paintball and the kids had a blast! There were some tears, but each kid quickly got over it and jumped right back into the game. It is also nice because you get access to their party room for about 2 hours so, I didn’t have to clean the house up afterwards. Although, I still do enjoy just having a ton of kids over to the house and letting them run wild through the house and the yard. They always seem to have fun with that.

The other fun thing that happened was that a family friend was also having a paintball party that day, right after Jonathan’s party. So, the boys stayed for that party and had 2 paintball parties in one day! It was also a great way for them to run off the extra sugar from the day.

Then, my birthday comes on an epic day, May 4! Every year I enjoy the Star Wars memes and GIF’s of the classic “May the 4th be with you” and especially love it when people send it as a Happy Birthday to me. We ordered Chinese food and pizza! We ate it before I thought to get a picture.

Then, on the Saturday, May 6, we had the family get together to celebrate Jonathan and Jordanna’s birthday here at the house. It is always nice to be able to get together. Some people were missing and we’re hoping to figure out get togethers soon with them. We might not see my brother and his family until August. Which also makes me wonder when we saw them last which I think was Christmas. If we are indeed heading to Toronto this summer (which I hope we are) and if we are, then maybe we will surprise them with a visit!

Now to the fun surprises! Super Grandma joined us for this celebration! The kids coined that name years ago and it has stuck because she truly is a Superwoman! Then, Aunt Jane also came to celebrate with us. We always love a visit from the Bowes family and always enjoy ourselves when we go to the farm!

Now, we wait until June to get the next couple birthday’s in. I think it is also funny that my birthday always falls about a week or so away from Mother’s Day and Josh’s is a week or so away from Father’s Day. So, not only do we celebrate 6 birthday’s in a two month span, but also Mother’s Day and Father’s Day! No wonder I am partied out by the time summer comes. On top of that, Joshua is having a “Start of Summer Party” since we totally dropped the ball on his birthday last year. We did not send out invites before summer began and then did not have contact information for his classmates. So, we also have that party to host at the beginning of June, but we are doing a Stinger’s event again, so that will be easy. Be sure to check out the video montage on YouTube (coming soon) for the rest of the pictures for the birthday parties!

  1. […] Jonah is 2 months old this month which is wild! Time is flying by so fast! He is so fascinated at the faces of his siblings. He just loves looking at them. Bosco turned 3 years old this month, Jonathan turned 8 years old this month and Jordanna turned 2 years old this month! I am excited to celebrate their birthday’s with family because I feel like we don’t get together as often as we should. Jon invited friends from school to a Splatmaster party at Stingers where the kids had a blast! You can check out all of the spring birthday fun at this blog post. […]
